WELCOME
=======
HI there, fellow icon collectors! Here is a cool collection of icons
which I have collected from various sources including:
* Over 5000 Icons converted by Tony Clemens & I from the Macintosh (various original authors)
* Converted from bitmaps (GIFs, JPGs etc.)
* Some we drew from scratch
* A few pinched from other places on the 'net
Only the best hand picked and converted icons end up in this collection!
(I am sure you well agree as there has been over 500,000 known downloads)
These icons are most useful to Windows 95/NT 4.0 users who can use them for
their shortcut folders and much more. Use the them on your desktop
to make it more fun!
YOU MUST BE IN HIGH COLOR OR TRUE COLOR TO USE 256 COLOR ICONS.
THIS EDITION REQUIRES MICROANGELO IF YOU WANT TO MANAGE THESE ICONS!
DOWNLOAD FROM HTTP://WWW.IMPACTSOFT.COM
Some icons will also be 48x48 as well as the usual 32x32 for extra detail!
2. NEW IN THIS VERSION
======================
The complete icon collection from Tony Clemens, every icon individually
converted from the Macintosh. About 85% of this collection
now consists of icons he converted from the Macintosh computer.
Unfortuately Tony has very little time to manage his web pages and
would rather speed the time converting icons from the Macintosh
computer. So he asked me to integrate the two collections to create the
best collection EVER!
3. USAGE WITH SHORTCUTS (Or Aliases? :) IN WIN95
================================================
1. Right click a shortcut icon you wish to change
2. Click Properties
3. Click Change Icon . . .
4. Click Browse
5. Change the Files of type to All Files
5. Find the icon library you wish to use from the path C:\WINDOWS\ICONS
6. Select the icon libary you want and Click OK
7. Scroll accross to select the icon you want, then OK!
You can't currently change the icons for actual folders like on the Mac,
if any programmers are reading this take note!
4. MAC -> PC ICONS
==================
To convert the Mac icons to the PC I did the following:
1. I took a screen shot of the Mac desktop and saved it in PICT format.
2. Renamed the files with PCT file extension.
3. Copied the files to a PC disk and loaded them into Corel Photo Paint
(I would have used PSP but it did not support PICT :(
4. Cropped the icons and saved them as BMP files
5. Imported the BMP files into Microangelo
6. Saved them to disk (obviously!)
There are a few programs that can automate this now, please see the links
on my web pages.
5. 256 COLOUR ICONS
===================
I now have a program, Icon Colour Level, that will edit the following
registry entries automatically. Double click it and check Show icons
using all possible colours to use 256 colour icons!
You can also give yourself 256 colour icons without any external
program by modifying the following registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\0001\Display\Settings
Look for a BitsPerPixel string. Then under:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
add a string value:
Shell Icon BPP
and give it a value corresponding to the previous (16 or 24)
NOTE: If there is no WindowMetrics key just add it; the single entry
for Shell Icon BPP will work.
6. ICONS FOR BMP FILES
======================
To make BMP files have icons that are thumbnails of the bitmaps
themselves, double click on:
Icons for BMP files.reg
or modify the following registry entry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Paint.Picture\DefaultIcon\
change the value of (Default) to %1
7. FIXING EXPLORER ICONS
========================
If you ever find that your icons don't show as they should in Explorer,
try double clicking on:
Fix Explorer Icons.reg
This will restore the icon related entries in the system registry.
8. CONVERTING ICO FILES TO GIF/BMP FILES
========================================
1. Get the icons that you want on screen
2. Press PRINT SCREEN
3. Load Paint Shop Pro (http://www.jasc.com)
4. Select Edit, then Paste
5. Drag a box around the icon you want
6. Select Image, then Crop
7. Select File, then Save As and voila!
Here's a better method :-
1. Load the icon into Micronagelo Studio
2. Select the icon by dragging a box around it
3. Select Edit, then Copy
4. Load Paint Shop Pro (http://www.jasc.com)
5. Select Edit, then Paste
6. Select File, then Save As and bobs your uncle!
9. THE AUTHOR
=============
I don't 'spose you care who I am do you? I wouldn't care if I was reading
this! I cant take all the credit because I only drew a few of them, but
I wouldn't mind credit for putting this collection together! All I ask
is that if you have some good icons, mail them to me and i'll add them to
the collection! Also if you have ANYTHING else you think I might like such
as furry/toon and sonic pix, anything to do with games, get uuencoding &
attaching those files!
Keeper of the collection,
Andy Watts.

Feel free to distribute this collection but please don't distribute the
icons individually! Keep this ZIP file together with this readme file!
This icon collection is FREEWARE! Spread it to all your friends!
Please feel free to include this on any magazine disk or shareware CD,
but please send me an email and let me know!
I am still looking icons to add to future versions of the collection,
EMAIL me, they must past Tony and myself's high quality standard!
If you see any cool MAC icons which are not in my collection, send me a
screen shot in any format!
